T?maki Makaurau-based DJ and producer Frank Booker is one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most soulful dancefloor selectors. From opening for Chicago’s “Queen of Funk” Chaka Khan to spinning exclusive afterparties for the one and only Prince and the auteur director Quentin Tarantino, his sets have enraptured nightclub audiences around
the globe. Along the way, he’s shared DJ booths with Moodymann, Gilles Peterson, DJ Harvey, DJ Spinna, Ron Trent, Sadar Bahar, François K, Dam-Funk, CC:DISCO!, and Chaos in the CBD, effortlessly holding his own amongst the originators and the best of the new wave.
Deeply rooted in the sensibilities of disco, boogie, jazz-funk, house and broken beat, Frank Booker’s cultivated aesthetic was guided by mentors like Soane, Manuel Bundy, Phil Asher, and Recloose. After co-producing Nathan Haines' Right Now LP, he made his mark with a string of highly sought-after disco edits and remixes released via Untracked,
Wonderful Noise, Fine Art Recordings, KAT, and Kolour LTD. Over the years, his production work has been supported by an esteemed echelon of DJs, including Danny Krivit, Folamour, The Blessed Madonna, Rahaan, Optimo, Horse Meat Disco, Jimpster, Norman Jay, Dave Lee, Mr Scruff, Dam Swindle and their peers. Whether headlining festivals like Splore, Flamingo Pier, Rhythm & Vines, Electric Avenue or Splendour in the Grass, working dancefloors in Europe, Asia, the UK and the US, or playing 4-6 hour sets under his House of Booker brand, he brings his encyclopedic musical knowledge, impeccable taste, and emotional generosity to every set. Beyond the booth, Frank Booker is a passionate music production educator, Ableton-certified trainer and mentor to young producers and DJs across Aotearoa and beyond.
In 2024, Frank Booker co-founded the Music First club night and label with DJ Samuel Harmony, curating a series of standout events in T?maki Makaurau featuring guests like Ron Trent, Musclecars, JNETT, Kenji Takimi, DJ Spinna, and Manuel Darquart. It’s all about building community on the dancefloor, celebrating real talent, and always keeping the music first. In his words, “I’m always trying to think about what’s coming next. What intrigues me is the possibility that the greatest party might be the next one. We’re here now. What can we do that’s going to keep things fun and moving? I just want to be constantly going forward.”
